MatlaMatla (مطلع) is a prayer-times, Quran and athkar app made by Mohamed Zakaria El-Zoghbi (ZaPlatform). This page explains what happens to your data.
In short
- No account, no ads. We ask for no email or phone number, and the app shows no ads.
- No tracking across apps. We don't use the advertising identifier (IDFA), and nothing we collect is linked to other apps or websites.
- Anonymous usage and crash data. We use Google's Firebase to learn when the app crashes, where it's slow and which features are used, so we can improve it. It carries no name or location, and you can turn it off in Settings.
- Your location stays on your device. It's used to calculate prayer times and the Qibla, and is never sent to us or to Google.
- We run no server of our own. Everything you save in the app (city, settings, bookmarks, highlights, your own athkar, downloads) is stored on your device only.
Location
- Matla asks for approximate location by default. That's enough for prayer times and the Qibla.
- Location is read when you open the app, to notice if you've moved to another city. It is not read in the background.
- Everything is calculated on the device. Your location is not sent to us or to anyone else.
- You can decline and pick your city by hand; the app works fully.
- The Apple Watch may use its own location for the Qibla page, in the same way, on the watch only.
Usage and crash data (Firebase)
Matla uses three Firebase services, provided by Google as a data processor on our behalf:
- Crashlytics (crashes and diagnostics): when the app crashes, a report with the crash log, device model, and iOS and app versions.
- Performance: measurements such as app start time and network load times.
- Analytics (usage): anonymous events, such as which screens are opened and which features are used.
This data carries an app-instance identifier set by Firebase, which changes if you delete the app. We don't use the advertising identifier (IDFA), we don't ask for tracking permission, the data is not used for advertising, and it isn't linked to your name or email, which we never have. Your location is not sent with it. As with any internet connection, Google sees your device's IP address.
You can turn all of it off in Matla's settings; sending stops and the app works as before.
Google processes this data under Google's privacy policy and the Firebase privacy terms.
Notifications and the alarm
The adhan and reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device, and the Fajr alarm is an iOS system alarm (AlarmKit). None of them go through a server.
The wake-up task (optional)
If you choose a task to turn off the Fajr alarm:
- Microphone and speech recognition, to say the waking dhikr. The app asks for on-device recognition when your device supports it. Audio is not stored or sent to us. On devices without on-device recognition, Apple processes the speech under its own privacy policy.
- Motion, to count your steps. Stays on the device.
- Camera, to scan a code you print and keep by the sink. Images are not stored or sent.
What the app connects to
When you use these features, the app connects directly to their source. As with any internet connection, the other side sees your device's IP address and has its own policy. We send no identifier about you with it.

Support and purchases
"Thank Matla" purchases are optional and unlock nothing. Apple processes them entirely through the App Store. We never see payment details or who you are. The app keeps only a note on your device that you supported it, to show you our thanks.
Apple Watch sync
The app sends your settings (city, method, athkar progress) from your iPhone to your watch directly, through Apple's system. It doesn't pass through any server of ours.
Children
Matla is suitable for all ages. From anyone, of any age, it collects only the anonymous usage and crash data described above.
Deleting your data
What you save in the app is on your device: Settings → Reset the app erases it, and deleting the app erases all of it. Usage and crash data isn't linked to who you are, so we can't pick yours out; turn sharing off in Settings and nothing more is sent.
